Starter Guide to Conducting Oral Histories with Elders
As our family members and community elders age, one of the most important things we can do is take the time to preserve their stories so that their memories can be cherished and shared with future generations.
This hour-long oral history workshop will give attendees the tools they need to conduct oral history interviews with their loved ones so they can start their own family archive where elders are represented in their own words.
From advice for the best recording setup to walking through some of the challenges faced when interviewing people you have a pre-existing rapport with, this workshop aims to provide folks with a foundational knowledge and supplementary materials so that they can incorporate oral history into their family’s memory practices.
Facilitated by Kortney Nash, Oral History Master of Arts degree candidate at Columbia University.
