Laurel Hill East was the site of the first Memorial Day celebration in Philadelphia in 1868. At this year’s ceremony, markers will be dedicated at the graves of previously unmarked veterans and the event will feature speeches, wreath-laying, music, honor guards and refreshments. Historical groups, veterans, and the public are encouraged to participate.
