City Nature Challenge is an annual initiative that invites people around the world to find and document wildlife in their own cities. Join us on May 3 along with naturalists, hobbyists and professionals as we learn how to identify species in the cemetery and arboretum. Bring the whole family for ID app tutorials, interactive games, basic exploration of taxonomy and classification, snacks, and conversation about the importance of biodiversity and environmental literacy.

Getting Here and Checking In
  • We will meet at the CONSERVATORY inside the cemetery (not the first building you see when you enter off Belmont Ave.).
  • Directions for getting to Laurel Hill West are linked here.
  • West Laurel Hill Cemetery is at 225 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd PA 19004 (GPS directions: please use 340 Belmont Avenue).
    • When you arrive and enter the cemetery you will pass two sets of gates and see a white line on the road. Follow this line to the Conservatory.
    • NOTE FOR UBER/LYFT RIDERS: Have your driver enter the cemetery following the above directions—otherwise, you will have a 5–10-minute walk to the event location.
  • Free parking is available outside the Conservatory.
ACCESSIBILITY:
  • Accessible parking spots are available in the parking lot on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Please email programs@laurelhillphl.com if you have specific accessibility questions or needs.
Event Details
    • Save time, and download the iNaturalist app on your phone or tablet ahead of time.
    • Laptops enable users to have a more advanced experience – consider bringing yours! They are not required.
    • If you captured observations on your digital camera, bring the camera and cables with you.
    • We will have limited ipads available.
    • While this event is inside, please dress appropriately with sturdy walking shoes, and weather appropriate clothing – you’ll likely want to explore grounds after our session!
