Sons of the American Revolution: Our Patriot Ancestors at Laurel Hill
The Philadelphia Colonial Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, founded in 1901, arranges thirteen-star flags for Memorial Day every May at the graves of over 60 patriots buried at Laurel Hill. Despite opening in 1838, the cemetery is home to many who served and were transferred here over time, either making the ultimate sacrifice or living out a natural life. Some are notable political and military leaders, some are heroes of famous battles, and some are militia or privates who quietly served the cause of freedom.
