Designing the Death Doula Playbook
Are you interested in how you can help shape the next phase of the deathcare ecosystem?
Right now, funeral directors associations like the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association (NJSFDA) are considering whether or not to incorporate death doulas into the funeral home. Isabel Knight, a human-centered designer in deathcare, will be facilitating a Journey Mapping exercise where we will be mapping out the current service that funeral directors provide as well as the services that hospice and other medical providers provide to see how death doulas can help bridge the gap between these siloed industries that provide support before someone dies and the funeral directors that support after death.
Death doulas and other new end-of-life providers have the opportunity to fill these gaps, but in order for them to do that, we need to think intentionally about the specific steps needed to get there. This workshop is where you get to help write the playbook!
This workshop is open to anyone, regardless of whether you are a death doula or end-of-life professional, but we are especially encouraging professionals like nurses, chaplains, and other end-of-life providers to attend. Ultimately, everyone has relevant experience to contribute to a workshop like this, regardless of if you have supported a loved one through the dying process, or if you are simply imagining how you would like the system to work in the case of your own death. All experience levels and perspectives welcome.
Hot herbal tea and light refreshments are included in your ticket.
